Obituary

Leon C. Meigs, 81, of Hutchinson, died Oct. 18, 2011, at his home.

He was born June 19, 1930, in Tulsa, Okla., the son of Leonard C. and Nellie F. Slagle Meigs.

He was a graduate of Hendrix College in Conway, Ark., and was a longtime Hutchinson resident. Leon retired from Hutchinson Community College in 1993, after a long career teaching history. He was a member of Trinity United Methodist Church. He was passionately involved with and served as past President of the Kansas Central Model Railroaders Club.

Leon married Carolyn Sue Clifford on June 8, 1952, in Paragould, Ark. She died Jan. 1, 2005.

Survivors include: two sons, David Meigs of Phoenix, Ariz., and Dan Meigs of Albuquerque, NM; a daughter, Diane Arnold of Philadelphia, Penn.; and five grandchildren.

Cremation has taken place. A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. Monday, Oct. 24, 2011, at Trinity United Methodist Church, with Rev. Jim Rhaesa presiding. Inurnment will be in the mausoleum at Fairlawn Burial Park at a later date.
