Obituary

Leona Bell (Hoefer) Entz died April 4, 2010, after more than a century of living.

She married "Toby" Entz on July 20, 1926. He died May 24, 1986.

They were blessed with five children, 14 grandchildren, 25 great-grandchildren and 10 great-great-grandchildren.

Her shining hallmark was her profound and unswerving Christian faith and a half-century commitment to teach young children about Jesus Christ. Her life was wholly devoted to the commandment "Let the little children come unto me, forbid them not, for such is the kingdom of heaven." For years, each Sunday at the First Church of God, Leona stood by her flannel board and taught Bible stories to children. During the week, she introduced the teachings of Jesus Christ to hundreds of children as a leader in the Child Evangelism Fellowship, conducting and coordinating multiple after-school "Good News" clubs with her daughter Onie.

Her commitment to spreading the good news is reflected in the ministry and mission work of her children. James A. Entz, (now deceased) his wife Beverly and children served as missionaries in Papua New Guinea and Cameroon. Onie Cooper continues to serve as a minister with the First Church of God. Donnys Womack, for more than thirty years has led the music program in several congregations. Lin Entz and his wife Pat served as missionaries with the Missionary Aviation Fellowship in Brazil. Stewart Entz (wife Elinor) served as Chancellor for the Kansas East Conference of the United Methodist Church for 18 years.

Leona's legacy will live on long after her passing, in the lives of those she touched with her simple message. There is no doubt that, as she approached the gates of heaven, it was softly proclaimed, "Well done, good and faithful servant."

Graveside service will be 2:30 p.m. Wednesday April 7, 2010, in Fairlawn Burial Park Mausoleum, Hutchinson, with Pastor Onie Cooper officiating. Visitation will be 1to 9 p.m. Tuesday and 9 a.m. to service time Wednesday with the family receiving friends from 1 to 2 p.m. at Elliott Mortuary Chapel, Hutchinson.

Memorials may be made to Wycliffe Bible Translators or Child Evangelism Fellowship in care of Elliott Mortuary.
