Obituary

Leona F. Stauffer, 93, died Feb. 2, 2007, at Thorne Care Center, Hutchinson.

She was born Nov. 14, 1913, in Nickerson, the daughter of Burdette and Nina Riley Gleason. She had lived in Reno and Pratt Counties, before moving to Rawlins, Wyo., from 1941 to 1999, moving back to Hutchinson in 1999, she was a homemaker, and was a switchboard operator for Union Pacific Railroad, Rawlins, Wyo.

She belonged to Mitchell Chapel United Methodist Church, and serving as Lady Fireman of the Union Pacific Railroad Auxiliary. Quilting and embroidering were two of her favorite hobbies.

On Jan. 29, 1939, she married Lewis R. Stauffer in Hutchinson. He died Dec. 27, 1993.

Survivors include: numerous nephews and nieces including: Harold Stauffer, Hutchinson, Mary Fern Woods, Gladstone, Mo., Charles Stauffer, Inman, Ray Stauffer, Lenexa, and Glenn Stauffer, Rawlins, Wyo.; and a sister-in-law, Ella Mae Dukelow, Santa Clara, Calif.

She was preceded in death by a brother, Gerald Gleason; and three sisters, Blanche Shay, Neva Spencer, and Mary Stauffer Lea.

Funeral will be at 10:30 a.m. Monday at Elliott Mortuary Chapel, 1219 North Main, Hutchinson, with the Rev. Sara Dillinger presiding. Visitation will be from 1 to 9 p.m. today and from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. Sunday at the mortuary. Burial will be in Penwell Gabel Cemetery and Mausoleum.
