Leonard Vernon Koenig, 89, died Jan. 8, 2009, at Promise Regional Medical Center, Hutchinson.
He was born June 10, 1919, the son of Charles and Caroline Reiss Koenig. He was a resident of Hutchinson for over 40 years.
He graduated from Raymond High School, Raymond, and St. John's College, Winfield. He was a retired farmer. He was a member of the Our Redeemer Lutheran Church, Hutchinson.
He was the past President of the Kansas Flying Farmers, past member of the Lyons State Bank Board, American Legion Lysle Rishel Post #68, and South Hutchinson Lions Club. He was a former Elder and longtime Sunday School Teacher at St. John's Lutheran Church, Ellinwood. He served in the U.S. Air Force during World War II.
On Oct. 25, 1999, he married Blanche Victoria Ladd, at the Faith Lutheran Church, Branson, Mo. She survives.
Other survivors include: son Raymond and wife, Dorothy, Wichita; stepchildren, Larry Ladd, Ed Ladd and wife, Jeanette, and Pam Frye and husband, Jim, all of Hutchinson; and eight grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by brother John Carl Koenig and sister Mildred C. Ricker.
Service 2 p.m. Saturday, at Our Redeemer Lutheran Church, Hutchinson, with Rev. Thomas B. Mendenhall presiding. Friends may call from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. Friday, at Elliott Mortuary. Burial will be in Fairlawn Burial Park.
