Obituary

Leonard W. Lebien Sr., 83, died Dec. 5, 2005, at Thorne Care Center.

He was born Oct. 10, 1922, in Lincoln, the son of Ernest and Marie Obermuller Lebien. A Hutchinson resident since 1946, he was retired from Cessna Fluid Power Division and also had been the co-owner of the former Bert's Cafe, South Hutchinson, and installed underground sprinkler systems with Herman Koop.

He belonged to Our Redeemer Lutheran Church, American Legion Lysle Rishel Post No. 68, Veterans of Foreign Wars Bob Campbell Post No. 1361 and Loyal Order of Moose Lodge No. 982, all in Hutchinson. He was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II, serving in Naples, Italy, earning the Purple Heart, Good Conduct and World War II Victory medals.

On June 30, 1946, he married Roberta B. Rathbun in Lincoln. She survives.

Other survivors include: two sons, Leonard "Butch" Lebien Jr. and wife, Sharon, Wichita, and Michael Lebien, Hutchinson; three brothers, Lambert Lebien, Walnut Creek, Calif., Lawrence Lebien, Lincoln, and Emerson Lebien, Helena, Mont.; a sister, Elfrieda Ryan, Orange, Calif.; and a granddaughter, Leslie D. Lebien, Hutchinson.

Funeral will be at 10 a.m. Friday at Our Redeemer Lutheran Church, with the Rev. Thomas B. Mendenhall presiding. Visitation will be from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. Wednesday and Thursday with the family present from 5 to 7 p.m. Thursday, all at Elliott Mortuary, Hutchinson. Burial will be in Fairlawn Burial Park with military graveside rites conducted by the Fort Riley Honor Guard.
