Leroy M. Spence, 92, died Feb. 19, 2014, at Harry Hynes Memorial Hospice, Wichita. He was born Feb. 28, 1921, in Pittsburg, to Jesse and Leona (Truster) Spence.

Leroy enjoyed building play houses, woodworking, and watching birds in the backyard. He was a member of Westside Baptist Church.

On Oct. 31, 1941, he married Darlene Washburn in Hutchinson. She died March 28, 2006.

After his wife's death in 2006, he started taking treats weekly to the Hutchinson Clinic and Hutchinson Credit Union. Leroy is survived by: children, William A. "Bill" Spence and wife JoLee of Edmond, Okla., Susan Balding and husband Bob of McPherson; brother, Keith Spence of Hutchinson; sisters, Thelma Smith of New Mexico and Judy Valkar of Colorado; five grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents; son, Garry Spence; three brothers; and a sister.

Funeral service will be 1:00 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 22, 2014, at Westside Baptist Church, 400 W. 12th Ave, with Robert Shelton officiating. Burial will be in Fairlawn Burial Park, Hutchinson. Friends may call from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. Friday with family to receive friends from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. at Elliott Mortuary, Hutchinson.
