Obituary

Lester Lee Paul, 93, died June 7, 2015, at his home. He was born Jan. 30, 1922, to Thomas and Rosa (Howerton) Paul, in Granby, Mo.

On Aug. 6, 1952, he married Veda Mae Johnson, in Burrton. She survives.

Lester graduated from Granby High School, Granby, Mo., in 1939, Pittsburg State University in 1948, with a Bachelor's degree and later with a Master's degree in Education. He was a school administrator, retiring after 35 years. Lester loved children, and was a substitute teacher, until two years ago. He was a Master Sergeant in the Army from 1943 to 1946, serving during WWII. Lester was a member of one of the very first honor flights. He was a member of the American Legion, Lions Club, the Footballers and Touchdowners Shriner's Club, and was a 32nd Degree Shriner. Lester volunteered with Boys State, the Kansas High School Athletic Association working as an official for all sporting events, and was past president of the Kansas High School Athletic Association. He was named to the Kansas Athletic Hall of Fame. Lester was a
member of Trinity United Methodist Church, where he was active in the Doers Sunday School class. He was an avid golfer and loved to keep up with his grandchildren on social media, especially Facebook.

Other survivors include: sons, Les Jr. (Stella) of Hutchinson, and Ronald (Diane) of Mulvane; eight grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents; two sisters; five brothers; and a great-grandson, Maximus Blindt.

A Celebration of Life service will be at 10 a.m. Thursday, June 11, 2015, at Trinity United Methodist Church, 1602 N. Main, with the Reverend Dr. Kim Biery officiating. Burial will follow at the Burrton Cemetery, with military honors conducted by Fort Riley Honor Guard. Friends may call from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. Wednesday, with the family present from 7 to 8:30 p.m., at Elliott Mortuary and Chapel, Hutchinson.
