Letha Audrey Roper, 93, died Monday, December 1, 2015. She was born June 29, 1922, in Huggins, Missouri, the daughter of Leroy Oscar and Nellie (Tate) Black.
She was a longtime Hutchinson resident and a 1940 graduate of Hutchinson High School. Letha worked as a switchboard operator for the telephone company, Gage Hall Clinic, and as a clerk for Coberly Drug Store.
Letha is survived by: her children, Patricia Miller of Hutchinson, Roger (Kimberly) of Benton; brother, Larry Black (Bonnie) of Hutchinson; sister-in-law, Joyce Black of Wichita; grandchildren, Shawn Fitzgerald (Randi) of Delray Beach, FL, Braedon and Lane Roper of Benton, Kelsey Steele (Jarrod) of Wichita; step-grandchildren, Lindsey Howard of Overland Park, Logan Howard of Hays; great-grandchildren, Jillian Lovett (Kevin) and Evan Fitzgerald, all of McKinney, TX, Isaac and Hudson Steele of Wichita; nephews, Eric and Terry Black of Wichita; and nieces, Lari Black of Bentley, Blythe Mencusi of Wichita and Rhonda Paulson of Seattle, WA. She was preceded in death by her brother, Lewil K. Black.
Funeral service will be 2 p.m. Saturday, December 5, 2015, at Elliott Chapel, Hutchinson, with the Rev. Dr. Jeffrey Thurman presiding. Burial will follow in Fairlawn Burial Park. Visitation will be from 5 to 9 p.m. Thursday, 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. Friday and 9 a.m. to service time Saturday at Elliott Mortuary.
