Obituary

BUHLER - Lillian Rae Rakestraw, 92, died Nov. 10, 2009, at Buhler Sunshine Meadows, Buhler.

She was born Jan. 19, 1917, in Geneseo, the daughter of Emmit Ray and Bertha Eleanor Manwarren Miller.

A resident of Buhler, formerly a longtime resident of Sterling, she was a homemaker.

She was a longtime member of First Baptist Church, Sterling, was a Sunday school instructor and choir director, both of the church, and a Young at Hearts member. She was also a member of the Silver Hair Legislature.

On May 9, 1936, she married Calvin Earl Rakestraw in Great Bend. He died April 1, 1988.

Survivors include: sons, E.W. "Dub" and wife Anita, El Dorado, and Curtis D. and wife Diana, Wichita; daughters, Verlee Adam, El Dorado, Linda R. Riner and husband Bud, and Polly Ann Brotzman and husband Rick, all of Hutchinson; 10 grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren; three great-great-grandchildren; nephew, Gary Geist and wife Jan, Hutchinson; sister-in-law, Lyndall Rockwell, Hutchinson; as well as numerous other relatives. She was preceded in death by a brother; three sisters; and a grandson.

Funeral will be at 1 p.m. Friday at Sterling Cemetery Chapel, Sterling, with Pastor Stephen Taylor presiding. Friends may sign the book from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. Wednesday and Thursday at Elliott Mortuary, Hutchinson. Burial will be in Sterling Cemetery, Sterling.

Memorials may be made to Buhler Sunshine Meadows, Buhler, or the donor's choice, in care of the mortuary.
