L.L. "Jim" Bornholdt, 81, died May 11, 2010, at Thorne Care Center at Wesley Towers, Hutchinson.
He was born Dec. 17, 1928, in Hutchinson, the son of Vernon L. and Edna R. Luty Bornholdt.
He was a 1947 graduate of Hutchinson High School. A resident of Hutchinson since 1943, moving from Inman, he was the retired owner and operator of Bornholdt Plantland.
He belonged to First Congregational Church, Lysle Rishel American Legion Post #68, member and past president of the Kansas Association of Nurserymen and the Western Association of Nurserymen. He served in the U.S. Army during the Korean Conflict, earning two Bronze Service Stars.
On Sept. 2, 1950, he married Ellen M. Park in Hutchinson. She died Sept. 13, 1994.
Survivors include: sons, Gary and wife Charla, Hutchinson, Michael, Las Cruces, N.M., and Bryan and wife Claudia, Logan, Utah; daughter, Susan Rodriguez and husband Steve, Wichita; five grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by a sister, Marilyn B. Parker.
Funeral will be at 10 a.m. Friday, May 14, 2010, at Elliott Mortuary Chapel, Hutchinson, with Pastor Matt Stafford presiding. Visitation will be from 2 to 9 p.m. today with the family present from 5 to 7 p.m. at the mortuary. Graveside service will be in North Inman Cemetery, Inman, with military rites conducted by Ft. Riley Honor Guard.
Memorials may be made to Hospice Care of Kansas, American Legion Post #68 or to the donor's choice, all in care of the mortuary.
