Obituary

Lloyd Gene Stofer, 90, went to be with our Lord Monday Oct. 14, 2013, at Hutchinson Regional Medical Center. He was born May 12, 1923, in Bucklin, Kan., the son of Elmer Lloyd Stofer and Lucy Luft Stofer.

He was a 1941 graduate of Kingsdown High School and attended Dodge City Community College and Adele Hale Business College in Hutchinson. Lloyd enlisted in the Navy on April 7, 1944, serving as a Seaman First Class until being honorably discharged in Sept. of 1945 after the end of World War II.

On Aug. 28, 1947, he married Rubie Evelyn Hatfield at Kinsley United Methodist Church.

They moved to Hutchinson on their first wedding anniversary. Lloyd began his career in the printing department of Krause Plow then later opened his own printing company (ABC Printing) on Main Street in Hutchinson. Lloyd retired after a long career as local Veterans employment representative and a counselor for the Department of Human Resources, State of Kansas. Uneasy in retirement Lloyd then kept busy as a volunteer at the Delos V. Smith Senior Center and as an independent travel agent.

He is survived by his sister, Velma Clevenger; sons, Douglas, Dennis and David; and daughter, Sherrill. He was a proud grandfather of 16 grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his wife, Rubie Evelyn Stofer, who died May 23, 2011.

Cremation has taken place. Memorial service will be 10 a.m. Friday, Oct. 18, 2013, at Elliott Chapel, Hutchinson, with Reverend Jim Rhaesa officiating. Inurnment will be in Fairlawn Burial Park, Hutchinson, with military honors conducted by the United States Navy Honor Guard. Friends may sign the register book from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. Wednesday and Thursday at Elliott Mortuary, Hutchinson.
