Logan C. Guffey, Jr., 90, died January 10, 2010 at Buhler Sunshine Meadows, Buhler. He was born July 30, 1919 in Columbus, KS to Logan C. and Susanah (Goode) Guffey, Sr. He was a graduate of Pittsburg Collge High, Pittsburg, KS. He received his Master's from Pittsburg State Teacher's College.
He served in the U.S. Army during WWII, serving in the South Seas for 4 years. He was a resident of Wichita since 1961, moving to Sequim, WA in June 2005 and to Buhler in August 2008.
He married Wilma Irene Gardner on Oct. 28, 1945 in Chanute, KS. He was a woodworking instructor at Wichita Heights High School since its inception until his retirement in June 1983. Logan spent his summers at Rocky Mountain National Park as a seasonal back country ranger for 23 years, beginning in 1963.
Survived by wife, Wilma; sons, John (Manuela) Guffey of Estes Park, CO; daughters, Peggy Rate, M.D., and husband, Robert Rate, M.D., of Hutchinson, Cindy and John Mackay of Sequim, WA and Sunny Jo and Nic Orbavich of Michigan City, IN; 12 grandchildren, Maya & Milo Guffey; Peter, Emily, Lyman & Suzanne Rate, Scott & Logan Mackay; and Thea, Vera, Julian & Sophia Orbavich; and 3 great-grandchildren, Marius, Fransisco & Fermina. Preceded in death by sisters, Mary Elizabeth Opsahl & Margaret Guffey; and niece, Suzanne Opsahl.
Cremation has taken place. Memorial services 10 a.m., Wednesday, Buhler Sunshine Meadows Retirement Community Activity Room, Buhler. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be sent to Buhler Sunshine Meadows, in care of Elliott Mortuary.
