Obituary

Lois Lorine “Corky” Elliott, 95, passed away August 11, 2026, at Diversicare of Hutchinson. She was born Lois Lorine Yoakum on January 27, 1931, Haysville, KS to Ernest B. and Emma M. (Weaver) Yoakum.

Lois attended Wichita High School East and graduated in 1948. She worked for Cessna, Countryside Lanes Bowling Alley, Dillon’s Food Bar, Union Valley Elementary School as a teacher’s aide, and was certified for Therapeutic Massage, all in Hutchinson. She volunteered at the Northern Rice County Food Bank, in Lyons, KS, for a number of years. Lois belonged to the Post Polio Society, The Young at Hearts of the Red Hat Society, and Little Hats, Big Hearts (the organization, who crochets hats for newborns at Hutchinson Regional Medical Center). She was a member of Eastwood Church of Christ, Hutchinson.

Lois loved gardening and her flowers were beautiful. She also enjoyed woodworking, embroidery, reading, horseback riding, and a variety of crafts. She was busy all the time.

Lois married Garlan D. Johnson, August 7, 1948, in Wichita, KS. She later married Alva “Doc” Elliott, July 12, 1969, in Blackwell, OK.

Survivors include a daughter, Glenace (Lloyd) Humphrey; sons, Donald (Nancy) Johnson, both of Hutchinson, Robert (Leann) Johnson of Lyons, Tony (Angie) Elliott of Hutchinson; eight grandchildren; 18 great-grandchildren; 27 great-great-grandchildren; stepfamily, Tom Elliott, Pattie Stratton, Theresa Tieman, Bubbie Elliott, Tommy Elliott; as well as numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.

She was preceded in death by her parents; former husband, Garlan D. Johnson; husband, Alva “Doc” Elliott; brothers, Donald Yoakum, Ernest B. Yoakum, Jr., J. T. Yoakum; sisters, Virgina Goulart, Rosalie Stroud, Aileen Hardin, Eyvonne Bowlin; daughter, Evyonne M. Sarwacinski; daughter-in-law, Terri Sue Johnson; grandson, Michael Sarwacinski; and granddaughter, Helen Hoskins.

Funeral service will be 1:00 p.m. Saturday, August 15, 2026, at Elliott Mortuary, with Matt Carden officiating. Burial will follow in Fairlawn Burial Park, Hutchinson. Friends may call from 9:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m. Friday, with the family present 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. at Elliott Mortuary.

Lois was deeply loved. Her family and home were most important to her. She had a way of making everyone who entered her home feel special. She loved to host family gatherings. She will be deeply missed by all.
