MOUNT HOPE - Lois I. Sparks, 86, died June 10, 2007, at Hutchinson Hospital.
She was born Dec. 26, 1920, in Mulhall, Okla., the daughter of Ira Mont and Bessie Bland Lowrie. She put herself through high school and graduated in 1943 from Mulhall High School, where she was a member of the National Honor Society. A resident of Mount Hope for 10 years, having moved from Seminole, Okla. and been a longtime resident of Dighton, she was a secretary for the probate judge in Lane County.
She belonged to the First Christian Church and was a former member of the Eastern Star, both of Dighton.
On Nov. 22, 1945, she married Chester D. Sparks in Topeka. He died March 4, 1980.
Survivors include: two daughters, Cheryl Dallam, and husband, David, Topeka, and Kathy Newcomer and husband, David, Haven; three sisters, Betty Kindschi, Stillwater, Okla., Maxine Yost, Guthrie, Okla., and Ruthie Rutherford, Oklahoma City; seven grandchildren, Diana Daniels, Darin Daniels, Brice Newcomer, Gregory Newcomer, Douglas Newcomer, Jeffrey Newcomer and Deborah Newcomer; and seven great-grandchildren, Kasey Parrett, Jacob Newcomer, Tyler Newcomer, Hannah Newcomer, Isabella Newcomer, Jena Newcomer and Lauren Newcomer.
She was preceded in death by her parents; and three brothers, Cloyd, Lavern and Virgil Lowrie.
Funeral will be at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at Elliott Mortuary, Hutchinson, with the Rev. Craig Rutherford presiding. Graveside service will be at 4 p.m. Wednesday in Dighton Memorial Cemetery. Visitation will be from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. Tuesday at the mortuary.
