Loraine Christabel "Christie" Barnes, 95, died Jan. 28, 2012, at Hospice House in Hutchinson. She was born Nov. 5, 1916, in Ratcliff, Arkansas, the daughter of W.O. Dill and Clara (Ray) Dill.
She graduated from Ratcliff High School. During the Depression, Christie moved to California, along with two brothers. After returning to Arkansas, she worked for 25 years for John Brown University managing the student union. Christie moved to Hutchinson in 2008, to be near her daughter and granddaughter.
She married William "Bill" Clayton Barnes on July 31, 1937, in Ventura, California. They returned to their home state of Arkansas three years later. Bill died Dec. 24, 1999, in Siloam Springs, Arkansas.
Survivors include: one daughter, Shirley Curiel and husband Rudolph "Rudy," Hutchinson; one son, Dick Barnes, Siloam Springs, Ark.; four grandchildren, Brenda Sies, Austin, Texas, Linda (Randy) Henderson, Hutchinson, Glen (Barb) Sies, Medford, Ore., and Tamara (Steve) Watkins, Ft. Collins, Colo.; six great-grandchildren; and three great-great-grandchildren.
Christie was preceded in death by a sister, Maud Paschal; and four brothers, Ray Dill, Herbert Dill, Onnie Dill and Leslie Dill.
Private family services will be held at time of burial in Caulksville Cemetery, Caulksville, Arkansas. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Good Samaritan Village or Hospice House, in care of Elliott Mortuary, 1219 N. Main, Hutchinson, KS 67501.
