Loren Kenneth Slater, 86, went home to be with his Heavenly Father on Father's Day, June 15, 2014, at Hospice House surrounded by his family. He was born Oct. 18, 1927, in Topeka, Kan., to Alfred and Leona (Dick) Slater.
He joined the Navy in 1945 serving in World War II in the South Pacific. Loren worked for Hutchinson National Bank for 20 years before retiring in 1990.
He married Alta Mae Simmons on Jan. 29, 1950, in Topeka. She survives. Other survivors include: daughter, Lorna Moore (Terry) of Hutchinson; son, Daryl Slater (Sheila) of Tulsa, Okla.; grandchildren, Lori Becker (Andrew), Julie Montandon (Bill), Janelle Anderson (Ty Lyons), Jennifer Stuart (Brett), all of Hutchinson, Erin Rutz (Brandon) of Ponca City, Okla.; and 14 great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by: his parents; brother, Charles Slater; and an infant grandson, DeAnte.
Cremation has taken place. Memorial service will be at 1:30 p.m. Saturday, June 21, 2014, at Wesley Towers Chapel, Hutchinson, with Reverend Richard Brooks presiding. Friends may sign the book from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. Wednesday through Friday at Elliott Mortuary, Hutchinson.
