Snell
June 25, 1937 – January 7, 2019
Loren Jerome Snell, 81, of Hutchinson, died January 7, 2019, at Hospice House, Hutchinson. He was born June 25, 1937, in Hastings, Nebraska, to Sherman Columbus and Ruth Myrtle (Hyde) Snell.
Loren graduated from Hastings Senior High School in 1955, attended Hutchinson Community College, and graduated from the FBI National Academy in 1977. Loren served in the United States Navy from 1955 to 1959. He began working at the Hutchinson Police Department October 1, 1961, retiring after 32 years of service as a lieutenant overseeing the detectives. Loren was a member of the Fraternal Order of Police. He enjoyed hunting and fishing. Loren was a member of Grace Episcopal Church, Hutchinson.
On December 23, 1958, he married Jennifer Nancy (Fuller) Barber in Dunedin, New Zealand. On November 18, 1988, he married Helen Kathleen 'Kathy' Lett in Hutchinson.
Loren is survived by: children, Jeanine Brannan (Doug) of Branson, MO, Bonnie Westfahl (Charlie) of Hutchinson, Theresa Faulkner (Matt) of Arlington, VA, Jeffrey Snell (Karna), of Buhler; grandchildren, Mallory Bohnenblust (Kyle), Matt Britton (Crystal), Amber Haasenritter (Michael), Austin Faulkner (Jacqueline), Shelby Westfahl, Alexandria Walker (Andrew), Emily Brannan, Ryan Westfahl, Dalton Snell, Ian Brannan; eight great-grandchildren; the children's mother, Jennifer; Loren's second wife, Kathy; and his companion, May Van Horn. He was preceded in death by his parents and son, James 'Jim' Snell.
Cremation has taken place. Memorial service will be 2 p.m. Friday, January 11, 2019, at Elliott Chapel, Hutchinson, with Father Larry Carver officiating. Friends may sign the book from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Wednesday and Thursday at Elliott Mortuary and 9 a.m. until service time Friday at Elliott Mortuary. The family will greet friends following the service.
Memorials may be made to the Hutchinson Animal Shelter, in care of Elliott Mortuary, 1219 N. Main, Hutchinson, KS 67501.
