Lorene E. Jenkins, 98, died at Wesley Towers Retirement Community on Sunday March 27, 2011.

Lorene was born in St. Louis, Mo., on October 25, 1912, the daughter of Grover and Jennie Hodge Shinall.

She grew up in Danville, Ill., where she met and married Al Jenkins. They lived in several states as he served in management with the JCPenney Co.

She attended Eastern Illinois State Teachers College. She was a lifetime member of the Beta Sigma Phi Sorority. She was a member of First Baptist Church, Hutchinson.

Lorene was preceded in death by her beloved husband of 62 years; two brothers; and son, Gary.

She is survived by a son, Buzz and wife Ona of Fairview, Texas; a daughter, Linda McQueen Rhodes and husband Gordon, Hutchinson; grandchildren, Jeff McQueen and wife Betsy of Branson, Mo., Mike McQueen and wife Terri of Hutchinson, Troy Jenkins and wife Melissa of Grand Prairie, Texas, Brandee and Nick Green of Denver, Colo.; and five great-grandchildren.

Funeral service will be 3 p.m. Friday, April 1, 2011, at Elliott Mortuary Chapel, with the Rev. Gordon Rhodes presiding. Friends may call from noon to 9 p.m. Thursday and 9 a.m. until services Friday. Burial will be in Penwell-Gabel Cemetery and Mausoleum, Hutchinson.
