Obituary

Lucy Elizabeth McAlister, 98, died Dec. 10, 2008, in Hutchinson.

She was born Aug. 21, 1910, in Elk County, the daughter of Arthur Clay and Ava Rodgers Barnes.

She was a 1928 graduate of Howard High School, Howard. A longtime Hutchinson area resident, she was a dedicated homemaker and served as South Hutchinson city assessor.

She belonged to South Hutchinson United Methodist Church, and she was very active with the United Methodist Women. She was a Boy Scouts Den Mother, and she antiqued. Lucy was an avid reader and card player, and she belonged to the 11 & 1 Card Club.

On Nov. 29, 1929, she married Theodore James McAlister in Caney, Kan. He died July 4, 1976.

Survivors include: two sons, Jim McAlister and wife Donna, British Columbia, Canada, and Roy McAlister and wife Kathleen, Phoenix, Ariz.; four daughters, Jane Campbell and husband Thomas, Hutchinson, Georgia Maxwell and husband Dan, Partridge, Judy Trimmell and husband Larry, Hutchinson, and Kathy Maxwell, Kansas City, Mo.; 17 grandchildren; 37 great-grandchildren; 16 great-great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by three grandchildren, James McAlister, Zachory McAlister and Amy McAlister; five brothers; and two sisters.

Memorial service will be 11 a.m. Saturday at South Hutchinson United Methodist Church with Pastor Tim Ault-Duell presiding. Visitation will be Friday from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m., with the family to receive friends from 6 to 8 at Elliott Mortuary. Private family graveside services will be held.
