Luella Friend, 100, died Feb. 14, 2012, at Hutchinson Regional Medical Center, Hutchinson.
She was born Oct. 23, 1911, in Belleville, Ill., to William Edward and Rose Dorothy Koch Friend.
Luella graduated from Belleville High School in 1929, attended McKendree College in Lebanon, Ill., and attended Washington and St. Louis Universities and the University of Missouri (Columbia Campus).
Luella was a member of P.E.O. Chapter HP, Women's Committee for Conservatory of Music at UMKC, Order of the Eastern Star Nashville, Illinois Chapter and NARFE No. 537 Hutchinson Chapter. Luella worked for the Social Security Administration for 26 years and retired in 1973. She was also a teacher for three years at Washington County, Ill. Public Elementary Schools, eight years at Mercantile Bank and Trust Co. in St. Louis, Mo., and four years at the Veteran Administration and IRS, doing WWII details.
Survivors include: brother-in-law, Gene Klosterhoff of South Hutchinson; nephew, Dr. Bruce Klosterhoff and wife Pat of Hutchinson; great-nieces, Stephanie Klosterhoff Heath of Overland Park, Leslie Klosterhoff Dalton and husband Jacob of Searcy, Ark., Erika Klosterhoff of Columbus, Ohio; great great-nieces, Maria Heath, Emilee and Ava Dalton; great great-nephews, Thomas Dalton and Damon Heath. Luella was preceded in death by her sister, Kathleen Klosterhoff.
Memorial service will be 2 p.m. Sunday, Feb. 19, 2012, at Mennonite Friendship Communities Chapel, 600 W. Blanchard, South Hutchinson, with Pastor Todd Schlosser and Reverend Jim Rhaesa officiating. Visitation will be from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. Saturday with family to receive friends from 5 to 7 p.m. Saturday at Elliott Mortuary, Hutchinson. Inurnment will be in Nashville, Ill. at a later date.
