PRETTY PRAIRIE - Lydia L. Graber Hurty, 96, died April 28, 2006, at Pretty Prairie Sunset Home.
She was born Sept. 27, 1909, in Pretty Prair-ie, the daughter of Joseph and Katherine Graber Schrag. She graduated from Pretty Prairie High School and Bethel College, North Newton. She was a retired elementary school teacher of 23 years.
She belonged to the First Mennonite Church, Extension Home Unit and was a 4-H Leader.
On May 12, 1935, she married Philip P. "Punch" Graber in Pretty Prairie. He died Sept. 25, 1983. On March 21, 1987, she married George Hurty in Hutchinson. He died June 15, 1988.
Survivors include: two daughters, Cleona and her husband, Jim Dirks, Kingman, and Deanna and her husband, Chet Dirks, Hutchinson; five grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; and a great-great-grandchild.
She was preceded in death by two brothers, Art and Herman Schrag; a sister, Edna Goering; and two half-sisters, Anna Stucky and Emma Stucky.
Graveside service will be at 9:30 a.m. Tuesday in Pretty Prairie Mennonite Church Cemetery. Funeral will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday at the First Mennonite Church, with Pastor Debbie Schmidt presiding. Visitation will be from noon to 9 p.m. Sunday and from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. Monday at Elliott Mortuary, Hutchinson, with the family present from 6 to 8 p.m. Monday.
