Lyman Lyle Jones, 85, South Hutchinson, died Aug. 1, 2016, at Hospice House in Hutchinson. He was born Sept. 27, 1930, in Lawrence, to Wilford and Zelma (Nehrbass) Jones.
Lyman graduated from Lawrence High School in 1948. He was drafted into the United States Army during the Korean War and served for two years. Lyman worked as a construction power line operator for the Line Construction Company in South Hutchinson. He was a member of the IBEW Local #304.
On Oct. 20, 1951, he married Mary Jo Mills in Lawton, OK. She died March 1, 2009. Lyman is survived by: son, Cliff and wife Cindy of Hutchinson; daughter, Diana Poorman and husband Ron of Raytown, MO; grandchildren, Derrick Stiles, Matthew Stiles and wife Rebecca, Jon and Garrett Poorman, Kristen Jones, and Alissa Lorchick and husband Ryan; great-grandchildren, Jaden Moon, Harper Stiles, Emma and Kyler Lorchick; brothers, Fred and wife Helen of Virginia Beach, VA, and Gary of Guthrie, OK; sisters, Aleta Hirschberg, Iris Jones, and Judy Verhage and husband Paul, all of Lawrence. He was preceded in death by: his parents; daughter, Sharon Jones; and brother, Herb.
Funeral service will be held 10 a.m. Friday, Aug. 5, 2016, at Elliott Chapel, with Don Lind officiating. Burial will follow in Memorial Park Cemetery, Hutchinson. Friends may call from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. Wednesday and Thursday, with the family to receive friends from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. Thursday, at Elliott Mortuary.
