Obituary

Lynn E. Lackey, 72, died Nov. 3, 2015, at Hutchinson Regional Medical Center. He was born May 3, 1943, in Wichita, to Arthur and Maxine (Carlson) Lackey. Lynn was a lifetime resident of Hutchinson.

He graduated from Buhler High School in 1961, attended Hutchinson Community College and graduated from Emporia State University in 1967. On June 20, 1965, he married Cheryl Goldsmith in Hutchinson. They celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary this summer with a two-month RV trip touring Canada and the Pacific Northwest that concluded with a week spent with their family in Colorado. Lynn worked with his father, Art, operating Lackey Construction until 1982. Lynn then devoted 22 years of work to Dillon Stores. He retired in 2005, as the Director of Construction and Engineering.

Lynn grew up attending Emanuel Lutheran Church. After their marriage, he and Chery joined the First Presbyterian Church, where he served as an elder, member of the choir and dedicated leader. Lynn was an active member of the community and was the ultimate servant. He had served on the Quivira Boy Scout Council and Buhler School Board. Lynn was also quite a handyman. He could fix anything and no project was too big or too small. He enjoyed working on projects for friends, family members, and his church. Lynn also enjoyed fishing and hunting. The greatest joy in his life was his grandchildren. He attended all their school activities; wherever the grandchildren were, that is where you could find Lynn.

Survivors include: his wife, Chery of Hutchinson; sons, Greg (Kelly), and Tim (Andrea), both of Hutchinson; daughter, Missy Mead (Mike) of Olathe; grandchildren, Tanner, Bryar, Maren and Jenna Lackey, and Ava and Ella Mead; and brother, LaMoine "Buzz" Lackey (Donna) of Plano, Texas. He was preceded in death by his parents.

Memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, Nov. 7, 2015, at First Presbyterian Church, 201 E. Sherman Ave., with the Rev. Mark H. Miller officiating. Private family burial will be at a later date. Visitation will be from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. Friday, with the family to receive friends from 12 to 2 p.m. Friday, at Elliott Mortuary, Hutchinson. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to First Presbyterian Church, in care of Elliott Mortuary, 1219 N. Main, Hutchinson, KS 67501.

Lynn was a devoted husband, father, and grandfather. He loved life and he was loved by all. He will be greatly missed by his family and friends.
