Obituary

Mabel D. Barnes, 89, died Sept. 11, 2007, at the Good Samaritan Center, Hutchinson.

She was born July 27, 1918, in Hutchinson, the daughter of Glen William and Viola Mabel Moore Mackey. A Hutchinson resident, she attended Hutchinson schools. She retired in 1982 as bookkeeper at Wiley Department Store, having worked there for 25 years.

She belonged to Trinity United Methodist Church, Hutchinson; United Methodist Women of Trinity UMC; Hutchinson Fire Department Women's Auxiliary; and volunteered with the Red Cross on Blood Drives for years.

On July 4, 1937, she married Carl M. Barnes in Hutchinson. He survives.

Other survivors include; a daughter, Nancy J. Barnes, Hutchinson; a daughter-in-law, Mary Barnes, El Paso, Texas; five grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; and four great-great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents; a son, Dr. Cary M. Barnes; four brothers and two sisters.

Funeral will be at 2 p.m. Friday at Trinity United Methodist Church, Hutchinson, with the Rev. Pat Ault-Duell presiding. Visitation will be from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. Thursday, with the family receiving friends from 7 to 8 p.m., at Elliott Mortuary. Burial will be in Fairlawn Burial Park, Hutchinson.
