Obituary

Ray W. Haas, Major, U.S. Army Retired, 96, died Jan. 14, 2009, at Hospice House, Hutchinson. He was born Jan. 2, 1913, in Nickerson to Christoph and Josey Miller Haas. He served in the United States Army from 1942 to 1947 during World War II. He retired as a Major from the United States Army Reserves in 1973.

Ray graduated from the Finley Engineering College in 1954. He worked as an Engineering Technician for DuPont and an Industrial Engineer for Remington Arms from 1951 to 1974. He was a member of the American Legion and the Retired Officers Association.

On July 16, 1939, he married Beth Rathbun in Hutchinson. She died January 28, 2006. Survivors include: two sister-in-laws; Evelyn Thompson and Margie Eikleberry, both of Hutchinson; and many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents, wife and two brothers and two sisters.

Funeral service will be 2:30 p.m. Monday at Wesley Towers Chapel with Pastor Wayne Pittman officiating. Visitation will be 1 to 9 pm Sunday at Elliott Mortuary. Burial will be at Penwell-Gabel Cemetery and Mausoleum with graveside honors conducted by Fort Riley Honor Guard. Memorials may be made to the donor's choice in care of the mortuary.
