Manuela "Nellie" Maldonado, 90, of Hutchinson, died March 11, 2011, at her home in Hutchinson.
She was born Nov. 23, 1920, in Monterey, Mexico, the daughter of Melliso Vallejo and Guadalupe Espinoza. She was raised from the age of 1 year by her mother and her dad, Joe P. Garcia.
She attended Hutchinson schools and was a member of Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Church, Our Lady of Guadalupe Altar Society, Our Friends Club, V.F.W. Auxiliary for Bob Campbell Post #1361, G.I. Forum Auxiliary, and S.R.M. She worked at Bond Bakery for 25 years.
On Oct. 17, 1942, she married Estanislado E. "Tony" Maldonado in Hutchinson. He died Nov. 13, 1982.
Survivors include: a son, Leonard Maldonado, Hutchinson; daughters, Amelia Orona, Hutchinson, and Josleen Garcia, El Paso, Texas; a brother, Alejandro Vallejo, Tulsa, Okla.; sisters, Rita Arnold, Hutchinson, Cora Garcia, El Paso, Texas, and Juanita Diaz, Ft. Worth, Texas; two grandchildren, Richard Maldonado, Wichita, and Kellie Perez, Hutchinson; seven great-grandchildren, Matthew Perez, Ricky Perez, Bianca Perez, Jacob Perez, Anistyn Maldonado, Alec Maldonado, and Lauren Chavez; and three great-great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her brothers, Raymond Garcia, Daniel Garcia, Robert Garcia, Micheal Garcia, and Gilberto Vallejo; and sisters, Josephine Sallabedra, Dorothy Graham, Ortencia Ruiz, and Gillermina Mendez.
A parish rosary will be recited 7 p.m., Monday, March 14, 2011, at Our Lady of Guadalupe Church. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated 10 a.m. Tuesday, March 15, 2011, at Our Lady of Guadalupe in South Hutchinson, Fr. Brian Nelson presiding. Visitation will be Sunday 1 to 9 p.m. and 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Monday at Elliott Mortuary. Burial will be in Penwell-Gabel Cemetery and Mausoleum, Hutchinson.
