Marcia J. Cox, 75, died Sept. 24, 2006, at Hospice House, Hutchinson.
She was born June 6, 1931, in rural Dickinson County, the daughter of Leroy Charles and Edith Iola Lank Meek. She was a 1949 graduate of Kipp High School and attended Marymount College, Salina. A longtime resident of Hutchinson, she was a homemaker, teacher's aide and was a retired secretary from Kansas Farmers Service Association. During her retirement, she worked as a postal clerk at Coberly Drug.
She belonged to First Presbyterian Church and attended First Church of the Nazarene. She was a 20-plus year member of the Sweet Adelines.
On Sept. 17, 1951, she married Robert Herman Kurfiss in Salina. On June 6, 1979, she married Alton E. "Red" Cox in Hutchinson. He died Jan. 19, 2001.
Survivors include: three daughters, Denise Cessna and husband, Mark, Debbie Gerard and husband, Roy, all of Hutchinson, and Brenda McCurdy, Wichita; a stepson, Dan Cox, Denver, Colo.; a stepdaughter, Janet McGonigle and husband, Phyll, Nickerson; four grandchildren; a great-grandchild on the way; four step-grandchildren; six step-great-grandchildren; a nephew; and a niece.
She was preceded in death by a grandson; a brother, Elston "Bud" Meek; and a sister-in-law, Jean Pendegolf.
Memorial service will be at 10 a.m. Saturday at Elliott Mortuary Chapel, Hutchinson, with the Revs. Tim Soule and R. Kendall Franklin presiding. Friends may sign the register from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. Wednesday, Thursday and Friday at the mortuary. Cremation has taken place. Burial will be in Roselawn Cemetery, Salina.
