Obituary

Margaret Louise Childs, 84, died June 27, 2010, at Hospice House, Hutchinson.

She was born Sept. 5, 1925, in Oklarado, Colo., the daughter of John Albert and Lydia Mildred Jenkins Baldwin.

She was a 1942 graduate of Yuma County High School, Yuma County, Colo., and a 1946 graduate of Friends University, Wichita. She was resident of Nickerson from 1951 until moving to Hutchinson in 1999. She was an elementary school teacher for USD 309.
She was a member of Nickerson United Methodist Church and was a Sunday school teacher, choir member, administrative board and history chairperson - Hutchinson District, all of the church; was also a United Methodist Women President; Cameo Club member; and Reno County Genealogical member and officer.

On July 19, 1947, she married Denver Vincent Childs in Wichita. He died Oct. 24, 2003.

Survivors include: two sons, Richard and wife Belinda, Wichita, and Jeffrey and wife Mary Riley, Charlotte, N.C.; two daughters, Dr. Deborah Hayes and husband Steve, Spotsylvania, Va., and Dorolyn Groshens and husband Dr. Tom, Ridgecrest, Calif.; grandchildren, Brandon, Allison, Riley, Catherine, Austin, Conor and James; brother-in-law, Duane Childs and wife Betty, Sterling; and sister-in-law, Alice Childs, Plevna.

She was preceded in death by her parents and five brothers.

Funeral will be at 11 a.m. Friday, July 2, 2010, at Nickerson United Methodist Church, Nickerson, with the Rev. Phil Fischer presiding. Visitation from 5 to 9 p.m. Wednesday and 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. Thursday at Elliott Mortuary, Hutchinson. Family will be present from 6:30 to 8 p.m. Thursday at the mortuary. Cremation to follow church service. Inurnment will be at 9:00 a.m. Saturday, July 3, 2010, in Penwell-Gabel Cemetery and Mausoleum, Hutchinson.

Memorials may be made to Nickerson United Methodist Church or American Diabetes Association.
