Margaret E. Dillon, 93, died Saturday, March 10, 2013, at Lexington Park Nursing Home, Topeka, Kan. She was born on Oct. 2, 1919, to Willie and Lillian Rahricht Camey at the family farm near Humansville, Mo.
Margaret attended Weableau Grade School and graduated from Humansville High School in 1937. She attended Business College in Sedalia, Mo. Her first job was with the Works Projects Administration in Bolivar, Mo., from 1939 to 1942. When WWII began, the WPA was dissolved, due to the lack of government funding, and she was transferred to Kansas City, Mo., to work for the War Department in the Office of Emergency Management. When the war came to an end, she transferred to the Bureau of Internal Revenue. In 1948, she and a former co-worker formed a tax and bookkeeping partnership in Kansas City. She remained there until the time of her marriage.
On May 16, 1953, in Kansas City, Margaret was united in marriage with Charles V. Dillon and moved to Hutchinson, Kan. Charles passed away on May 24, 2004.
She resided in Hutchinson until 2006. Margaret had a passion for helping others and was never an idle person. Her 53 years, living in Hutchinson, included memberships in numerous civic organizations, and countless hours of volunteer work. Some of her activities included, serving as President of the Children's Emergency Shelter Home, President of the Carey Park Women's Golf Association, and Treasurer for 19 years for the Hutchinson Community Concert Association. For many years, she was active as a leader in scouts and 4-H, and also acted as a clothing judge for numerous 4-H County and State Fairs. Margaret was an active member of First Presbyterian Church of Hutchinson, and was a Children's Sunday school teacher for many years. She was also a member of Preceptor Beta Upsilon of Beta Sigma Phi, for which she was City Valentine Queen in 1976. Through all of the activities she participated in during her life, Margaret was richly blessed with friends. She was also blessed with many gifts and talents, which she shared and used wisely. Margaret was well known for her expertise as a seamstress, and was always using her talents to help others. Her many hobbies kept her busy, though without a doubt, her favorite was playing golf, rain or shine.
Margaret is survived by: a son, and a daughter, Claudia Fox (husband Robert) of Topeka; and four grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday, March 16, 2013, at the Elliott Mortuary, Hutchinson. The family will receive friends starting at 9:30 a.m. at Elliott Mortuary. Interment will follow at the Fairlawn Cemetery, Hutchinson. Friends may sign the register book Wednesday through Friday at the mortuary.
