Margaret Jane Hayes, 91, died Dec. 1, 2015, at Hester Care, Wesley Towers. She was born Aug. 18, 1924, in Yates Center, to William Thomas and Clara (Baldwin) Mathews.

Margaret graduated from Hutchinson High School in 1942, and then Hutchinson Community College in 1944. She was a member of First United Methodist Church since 1947, Kansas Writers Club, and was an exemplar member of Beta Sigma Phi. She was a substitute teacher for 10 years and sold Avon for over 35 years, and was the top in salesperson in Hutchinson.

On Oct. 16, 1943, Margaret married Everette F. Hayes in San Antonio, Texas. He survives. Other survivors include: daughter, LuAnn Mart and husband Robert of Parsons; son, Tom Hayes of Hutchinson; four grandchildren; five great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents; three brothers and a sister.

Funeral service will be at 10 a.m. Monday, Dec. 7, 2015, at First United Methodist Church, with Pastor Jeff Slater presiding. Cremation will follow and inurnment will be in Fairlawn Burial Park, Hutchinson. Friends may call from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday and from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. with the family to receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Sunday at Elliott Mortuary, Hutchinson.
