Obituary

NICKERSON - Margaret N. "Mar" Stafford, 89, Nickerson, died at her home Friday, Feb. 12, 2010.

She was born March 6, 1920, in El Dorado, the daughter of Roland R. and Bernice E. Benson Wiley.

She was a school librarian for USD 309 at the Mitchell and North Reno Schools. She was a graduate of El Dorado High School and El Dorado Junior College, Kansas State University and Emporia State University. She was a member of Nickerson United Methodist Church, United Methodist Women district officer, Cameo Club, El Dorado Freya Club, Hutchinson Area Retired Teachers, Delta Kappa Gamma Society, Reno County Democratic Women's Club, Reno County Cancer Association Board, Friends of the Nickerson Public Library Board, Chi Omega Sorority, Master teacher USD 309 1986-87, facilitator of Reno County Crop Walk, named as one of the 10 outstanding women in Reno County in observance of the International Year of the Woman, a longtime debate and forensics judge, and church youth group leader in El Dorado and Nickerson.

On Aug. 21, 1942, she married Robert Ingersoll Stafford in El Dorado. He died April 19, 1964.

Survivors include eight children: Nancy and husband Jim Rizzuto, Colorado, Kris Stafford, Hutchinson, Tom Stafford, Newton, Joe Stafford, Lawrence, Ned Stafford, Germany, Sarah Stafford Kavoch and Mary Stafford, both of Hutchinson, Jon Stafford and wife Eleanor, North Carolina; one sister, Susie Sterling and husband Bob Hardtner; 13 grandchildren: Max and Nick Stafford, Ben and Kate Rizzuto, Nate, Emily and Phillip Stafford, Miles and George Stafford, Maggie and Will Kovach, Eli and Jasper Stafford; six great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her husband; her son, Dr. Rob Stafford; a brother, Mickey Wiley; and other beloved ones.

Funeral will be 10:30 a.m. Thursday, February 18, 2010, at Nickerson United Methodist Church, with the Rev. Phil Fischer presiding. Friends may call 9 to 9 p.m. Wednesday, with family to receive friends from 5 to 7 p.m. at Elliott Mortuary. Burial will be in Wildmead Cemetery, Nickerson.
