Marian E. Tigner, 86, died June 19, 2006, at Hospice House.
She was born Dec. 27, 1919, in Swan, Iowa, the daughter of Ross E. and Hazel N. Falor Buckley. She graduated from Liberty Center High School, Liberty Center, Iowa, in 1937. In 1961, she graduated from Sterling College and received her reading specialist degree from Emporia State University. A resident of Hutchinson since 1990, having lived in Sterling from 1950 to 1990, she was a retired teacher, teaching her first year at Zenda, two years at Whitewater, and retired from Sterling Grade School after 33 years.
She belonged to First Baptist Church of Sterling and was a life member of the NEA and KNEA.
On July 31, 1938, she married R. John Tigner.
Survivors include: two daughters, Joan Hopping, Hutchinson, and Janet Aves and husband, Don, Garden Plain; a sister, Alice Sumner and husband, James, Derby; five grandchildren, Shannon and wife, Tiffany Hopkins, Lori and husband, DuWayne Klaassen, Michelle Shanks and husband, Ben, John Hopping and wife, Courtney, and Mia Hopkins; and eight great-grandchildren, Joshuah and Mackenzie Hopkins, Katelyn and Kendra Klaassen, Shelby and Corey Bishop, Brian Hopkins and a Hopping baby on the way.
Funeral will be at 11 a.m. Thursday at Elliott Chapel, Hutchinson, with James Sumner presiding. Visitation will be from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home. The casket will be closed. Burial will be in Sterling Community Cemetery.
