Mariette (Penny) Shea, 88, passed away Sunday Jan. 2, 2011, at Hospice House in Hutchinson, Kan. Penny was born Oct. 11, 1922, in Akron, Ohio, to Martin and Margaret Bell.
She served as a WAVE in the Navy from 1944 to 1949.

She married LCDR John Shea, USN, on Sept. 30, 1945, in Washington, D.C. He passed away Feb. 3, 1973.

In Penny's career days she taught fashion merchandise at Salt City School of business, was co-owner of B Beautiful Salon and Body Boutique, owner/manager of Sweetbriar boutique and owner of the Ramada Inn Liquor store, all in Hutchinson.

Penny is survived by son, Michael and wife Shannon, Dennis and wife Leslie, and Lisa Shea; sixteen grandchildren, Tamera, Damien, Ryanne, Kathleen, Erika, Valerie, Amanda, Ashley, Andrew, Jessica, Kelsey, Heather, John, Kelly, Briana; and 15 great-grandchildren.

She is preceded in death by her husband, John; sons, John and James (Pat); and granddaughter, Nicole.

Cremation has taken place and internment will be in Fort Riley Cemetery in Junction City, Kan. Memorials may be sent to Hospice of Reno County
