Marilyn C. Etzler, 88, died April 20, 2013, at Thorne Care Center, Wesley Towers. She was born Jan. 25, 1925, in Lawrence, the daughter of John and Virgie Child Hughes. A Hutchinson resident since 1928, she graduated from HHS in 1942, attended Lindenwood College in St. Charles, Mo., graduated from the University of Kansas in 1946, and completed her Masters in 1948.

Marilyn was a member of Kappa Kappa Gamma Sorority, Phi Alpha Theta History Fraternity, Trinity United Methodist Church, and a former member of the PEO Chapter BJ.

On Dec. 30, 1946, she married Joseph C. Etzler. Joe died Nov. 5, 1994. Survivors include: son, James Thomas Etzler and wife Sharon, Hutchinson; daughter, Ann Etzler and husband Dennis D. Loyd of Hutchinson; sister, Ginny Shackelford and husband Bill of Shawnee Mission; six grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; and Diane Scott, her long-time caregiver and companion.

Funeral will be at 11 a.m. Thursday, April 25, 2013, at Elliott Chapel, Hutchinson, with the Rev. Jim Rhaesa officiating. A private family graveside service will follow in Fairlawn Cemetery. The casket will be closed. Friends may sign the register Monday, Tuesday, and Wednesday at Elliott Mortuary.

Memorials may be given to the Hutchinson Animal Shelter, Hutchinson Public Library, or Kappa Kappa Gamma Sorority, in care of the mortuary, 1219 North Main, Hutchinson, KS 67501.
