Obituary

Marion H. Toland, 83, died Jan. 28, 2006, at Good Samaritan Center.

He was born April 12, 1922, in St. John, the son of Earl E. and Mabel Elizabeth Millsap Toland. He graduated from St. John High School and was a 1947 graduate of Brigham Young University. A resident of Hutchinson since January of 1952, he was a finance controller for NCRA, National Cooperative Refinery Association, retiring in 1987.

He was a lifetime member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints, served a mission for the church, serving multiple times as Bishop in the Hutchinson Ward LDS Church. He served in the U.S. Army Air Corp during World War II and retired as a major in the Air Force after 30 years of active and reserve time.

On March 27, 1946, he married Mary Catherine "Katie" Blake in St. John. She died Aug. 5, 2004.

Survivors include: four sons, David M. and wife, Pat, Topeka, Timothy B. and wife, Dee, Clinton, Okla., John H. and wife, Debby, Mounds, Okla., and Mark E., Hutchinson; a sister, Wamoth Allison, St. John; 16 grandchildren; and 14 great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by a brother, Donnie; and a sister, Joyce Blake.

Funeral will be at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints, 43rd and Plum, with Bishop William Bower presiding. Graveside service with military honors will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday in Fairview Cemetery, St. John. Visitation will be from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Tuesday at Elliott Mortuary, Hutchinson, and from 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at the church.
