Obituary

Marjorie B. Gibson Elliott, 91, died Jan. 10, 2010, at Hester Care Center, Wesley Towers, Hutchin-son. She was born Oct. 21, 1918, in Macksville, Kansas, the daughter of Harvey and Hazel Finkle Bre-neman. She was a 1936 graduate of Macksville High School and a 1940, graduate of Kansas State University.

A Hutchinson resident since 1948, she taught at Liberty Junior High School, finished a term at Darlow Country School and owned and operated the Gibson Preschool Playhouse for 20 plus years, retiring in 1978.

Prior to living in Hutchinson, she taught for three years at Hamilton High School, Hamilton, Kansas.

She belonged to Trinity United Methodist Church, United Meth-odist Women, Together Sunday School Class, the Hutchinson Music Club, P.E.O. Chapter CM, Chi Omega Sorority, Wesley Towers Singers, and the Hutchin-son Hospital Auxiliary. Though not recently, she played violin in the Hutchinson Symphony and the Messiah Orchestra for many years and was a board member and worker for the Community Concert Association.

On July 17, 1942, she married Earl R. Gibson, in Norfolk, Va. He died April 27, 1991. In 1994, she married Roland Elliott. He sur-vives. Other survivors include: a daughter, Cynthia K. Gibson, Hutchinson; a stepson, Gerald T. Elliott, Overland Park; a step-daughter, Sherrell Varner, Reston, Va.; four step-grandchildren; eight step-great-grandchildren; and nieces, neph-ews, and cousins of the Breneman, Finkle, Hodson, Cotton, and Gib-son families.

She was preceded in death by two sisters, Bernice Cotton in 1990, and Bonnie Hodson in 2001.

Funeral will be at 11 a.m. Thursday Jan. 14, 2010, at Trinity United Methodist Church, Hut-chinson, with the Rev. Pat Ault-Duell presiding. Visitation will be from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. Tuesday and Wednesday at Elliott Mortuary, Hutchinson. Burial will be in Penwell Gabel Cemetery and Mausoleum, Hutchinson. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be sent to the Hutchinson Music Club Scholarship Fund, the Good Sa-maritan Fund at Wesley Towers, or Hospice Care of Kansas, all in care of the mortuary.
