Marlo Dean
Oltman
July 30, 1933 – November 10, 2021
Marlo Dean Oltman passed away Wednesday, November 10, 2021, at Hospice House in Hutchinson, KS.
Marlo was born in Enders, NE, to George and Lois (Wine) Oltman on July 30, 1933. After graduating from Chase County High School in 1951, Imperial, NE, he attended McPherson College, McPherson, KS. After a 3-year break to serve his alternative service and work, he graduated from McPherson College June 1, 1958, with a BA Degree in History. The day after graduation, he married Frances Straka. Marlo taught history at Aurora H.S, Aurora, NE, and Buhler H.S., Buhler, KS, retiring in 1995. He also had a Master's degree in U.S. History from KU. He was a member of NEA, a charter member of the Buhler Kiwanis Club, and, after getting additional education, served on the Ministry Team at Community Church of the Brethren, Hutchinson, KS.
Marlo is survived by his wife of 63 years, Frances; Children: Jeff (Tammy), Irving, TX; Tony (Laura Shea), Hutchinson, KS; Julie (Jeff) Phillips, Kijabe, Kenya/Waynesboro, VA. Grandchildren: Logan Phillips and Megan Phillips, Waynesboro, VA. Step-grandchildren: Rhiannon Cooney, Villisca, IA; Valerie Shea, Hutchinson, KS and four great step-grandchildren. Siblings: Berwyn (Kathryn), Winter Garden, FL; Dwight (Shirley), Waynesville, NC; Eileen (Sid) Smith, Rolling Hills Estates, CA; Betty (Arlo) Bowen, Granbury, TX; Karen Pickering, Kent, England; and numerous nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by: his parents, George and Lois Oltman; brothers: Dale, Tallahassee, FL; and David, Salina, KS.
A Celebration of Life will be held at Community Church of the Brethren, 1600 N. Severance, Hutchinson, KS, on Saturday, November 20, 2021, at 2:00 p.m. with Visitation following the service. The celebration will also be available on YouTube: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7ymT2M_jiQE .
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Community Church of the Brethren, McPherson College General Scholarship Fund, or Hospice House, in care of Elliott Mortuary and Crematory, 1219 N. Main, Hutchinson, KS 67501.
