PLEVNA - Martha Delia Horton, 78, died Saturday, Oct. 29, 2011.
She was born Sept. 9, 1933, in Scott County, the daughter of Ralph and Eleanor Harkness McReynolds.
She was a graduate of Scott County High School, Kansas State University and Sterling College, a member of Plevna Community Bible Church in which she was involved in BARACAS, Womens Fellowship, committees, Sunday school and Bible school teacher, and a Plevna community leader including being mayor and council member for 34 years, a leader for Sunflower 4-H Club, a member of Plevna Women's Club, Heart of Kansas Quilting Guild, Order of Eastern Star, Silver Leaf Chapter #464, Hutchinson. Martha was a home economist, home economics teacher, elementary school teacher, the head cook at Stafford Leisure Homestead Helpmate and a farm wife with Gene.
On March 17, 1957, she married Joseph Eugene "Gene" Horton at Danforth Chapel, Kansas State University, Manhattan. He died March 5, 2009.
Other survivors include: their children, Joe, Pretty Prairie, Karen Horton and Myra Horton, Hutchinson; three sisters, Eldora McMinimy, Ashland, Norma Sampson, Stoughton, Wisconsin, Connie Grube, Lakeside, Arizona; three granddaughters, Stacia and husband Josh Helm, Stefani Horton, Shelby Horton; twin great-grandsons, Jonathan and Joshua Helm.
She was preceded in death by a daughter, Lucille Marie Gillette and a sister, Leona McReynolds.
A memorial service will be at 10:30 a.m. Thursday, Nov. 3, 2011, at Plevna Community Bible Church, with Pastor David E. Green officiating. Burial will be in Hazen Cemetery. Friends may sign her register book from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. Tuesday and Wednesday with the family present 5 to 7 p.m. Wednesday at Elliott Mortuary and Crematory, Hutchinson.
In lieu of flowers, memorial gifts may be made to Plevna Community Bible Church in care of the mortuary.
