Martin W. "Bill" Hayden, 78, died Oct. 17, 2005, in Hutchinson Hospital, Hutchinson.
He was born Dec. 12, 1926, in East Prairie, Mo., the son of Thomas H. and Anna Hayden. A longtime Hutchinson resident, he was a superintendent for Majestic Pipeline, a pioneer in bringing gas pipeline technology throughout Canada in the 1950s and 60s. He was also the owner of Hayden Construction Inc.
He was a U.S. Army veteran from 1945 to 1947, serving in the Korean Conflict and a Combat Engineer in World War II.
On July 2, 1947, he married Leona Schenkel in Hot Springs, Ark. She died Nov. 3, 1997.
Survivors include: a son, Dennis W. "Billy" Hayden and wife Lorelee, Hutchinson; two grandsons, Mike Hayden, Wichita, Jeff Hayden, Irvine, Calif.; and a great-grandson, Abbott Michael Hayden.
He was preceded in death by two sisters, Shirley Chaney and Joanne Forrester.
Funeral will be at 2 p.m. Thursday at Elliott Mortuary Chapel, Hutchinson, with the Rev. Mark Conard presiding. Visitation will be from noon to 9 p.m. Wednesday at the mortuary. Burial will be in Memorial Park Cemetery, Hutchinson, with military graveside honors conducted by the Fort Riley Honor Guard.
