Martin Henry "Mike" Boesch, of Hutchinson, KS, died Thursday, July 15, 2010, at Hospice House in Hutchinson. He was born August 23, 1929, in Cedar Rapids , Neb. He was united in marriage on June 1, 1973, to Lois M. Spence in Bellflower, California.
Martin retired from the U.S. Navy after serving 21 years on various assignments, including the Underwater Demolition Team, the Korean War and the Vietnam War. Martin earned several awards during his years of service, including the Purple Heart. He then continued his service at the Long Beach Naval Shipyard, where he retired after 22 years of service. After Martin served in the government, he was a custodian for nine years with USD No. 308, and for eight years with First Presbyterian Church, both of Hutchinson. Martin was a loving family man who lived for his wife, family and especially his grandchildren.
Survivors include: wife, Lois Boesch of Hutchinson; son, Jeff Boesch and wife Cindy of Lexington, Neb.; daughter, Pam Younker of Hutchinson; son, Doug Marshall of Hutchinson; brother, William Boesch of Hutchinson; sisters, ReNelda Wenburg of Cozad, Neb., Sadonna Hedlund of Hastings, Neb., and Annamarie Hellbush of Cedar Rapids, Neb.; five grandchildren; and 15 great-grandchildren.
Martin was preceded in death by his parents, Joseph Henry and Francis Marie Boesch, his son, Gregory Martin Boesch, and two sisters, Jollitta Tillman and Bethene Darling.
Funeral service will be at 2 p.m. Monday, July 19, 2010, at Elliott Mortuary Chapel, Hutchinson, with Pastor Tim Carey officiating. Friends may call from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. today and Sunday with family present from 6 to 7 p.m. Sunday, at Elliott Mortuary, Hutchinson. Entombment will be in Fairlawn Mausoleum, with military graveside rites conducted by the Navy Honor Guard.
