Marvin Dale Farney, 76, passed away at Rice County District One Hospital, Lyons, Kan. Tuesday, May 13, 2014. He was born June 29, 1937, to Ruben and Irene (Engbrecht) Farney in Abbyville, Kan.
He graduated from Abbyville High School in 1955. Marvin was a lifelong resident of Abbyville, Kan. Marvin was a member of Sterling Evangelical Bible Church, was on the board of Enterprise Township, trustee and treasurer of Sterling Evangelical Bible Church, on the board of Ark Valley Electrical CO-OP, Mennonite Friendship Communities and Farmers Co-Op Grain. On Aug. 8, 1964, he married Fleda Caldwell in Hinton, West Virginia. She survives. Other survivors include: his daughter, Pamela Joy (Robert) of Lewis Center, Ohio; sons, Douglas Farney (Deidrea) of St. Charles, Mo. and Gregory Farney of Sterling, Kan.; 11 grandchildren, Taylor, Jenna, Ryan, and Braden Joy, Dylan, Regan, Mylie Farney, Gage, Katelin, Lacey, and Zane Farney; sister, Betty Albertson of Hutchinson, Kan.; brother, Dr. Darrell Farney (Maureen) of Round Lake, Ill.; sister-in-law, Fern Farney of Sterling, Kan.; brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Frank and Carolyn Jones of Ballengee, WV; and many nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents; brother, Don Farney; and sister-in-law, Marilyn Caldwell.
Funeral services will be 10:30 a.m. Monday, May 19, 2014, at Sterling Evangelical Bible Church, 3017 North Sterling Road, Sterling, Kan., with Pastor Philip Carroll, Pastor Tim Elsner and Dr. Darrell Farney presiding. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. Friends may call from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. Saturday and Sunday with the family to receive friends from 3 to 5 p.m. Sunday at Elliott Mortuary, Hutchinson.
