Major Marvin L. Ragland, 91, died June 11, 2011, at Via Christi Hospital on St. Francis, Wichita.
He was born Oct. 11, 1919, in Hutchinson, the son of John W. and Mary Hemphill Ragland.
He was a Hutchinson High School graduate and attended Hutchinson Community College. He worked for the United Postal Service. Marvin was an Army veteran and he was a paratrooper who went into Normandy on D-Day.
On June 1, 1947, Marvin married Wanda Mae Kienzle in Hutchinson. She died March 19, 2003. Survivors include: son, Roger Ragland and wife Vickie of Newcastle, Okla.; daughters, Jeannie Driskel and husband Larry of Cherryvale, Janet Ragland-Blick and husband Bill of Hutchinson; brother, Willis Ragland of Tucson, Ariz.; brother-in-law, John Kienzle of Hutchinson; step brother, Carl Eisiminger of Hutchinson; step sisters, Melba Trotter and husband Dick of Hutchinson, Joyce Kearney of Texas, and Shirley DeVaney of Illinois; seven grandchildren and 25 great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his mother, Mary Eisiminger, and a grandson, Jackson Ragland.
Funeral service will be at 1:30 p.m. Wednesday, June 15, 2011, at Elliott Mortuary Chapel, with Reverend Mark Conrad presiding. Burial will be in Penwell-Gabel Cemetery and Mausoleum, Hutchinson, with graveside military honors conducted by Fort Riley Honor Guard. Visitation will be 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home.
Memorials may be made to the Central Kansas Prairie Honor Flight, in care of the mortuary.
