Obituary

Marvin Dave Schrag, 89, of Hutchinson, died Tuesday morning May 26, 2026, after a short stay at Hospice House. He was born December 16, 1936, to David A. and Frieda (Stucky) Schrag.

Marvin was a lifelong resident of Pretty Prairie, graduating from Pretty Prairie High School in 1955. He was in 1-W service in Denver, CO, for two years, from 1957-1958. Marvin was a member of the First Mennonite Church of Pretty Prairie. He used his talents by serving on the trustee committee, as a youth sponsor, and on Sunday mornings as an usher and in the sound system booth. Marvin was baptized upon confession of his faith as a youth. In addition to his job at Master Machine Tools where he worked for many years, Marvin enjoyed selling Marty J’s and had a small mowing business with the family. In later years, he enjoyed spending time with his grandkids and attending all their various school activities.

Marvin married the love of his life, Fae McVey, on February 3, 1962, in Kismet, KS. To this marriage was added Kandy Kay and Dave Alan Schrag.

He is survived by his wife of 64 years, Fae Schrag; daughter, Kandy Graber (Kevin); son, Dave Schrag (Sharon); grandchildren, Kate Graber, Kaleb Graber (Christine), Payden Schrag, Ross Schrag (Claire), Lane Schrag (Hannah); great-grandchildren, Tatum and Kalvin Graber, Raegan Schrag; sisters, Joyce O’Leary, Davieda Dick; sister-in-law, Vee Rinehart; stepsiblings; and cousins.

Marvin was preceded in death by his parents, David Schrag and Frieda Schrag Schwartz; stepfather, Milton Schwartz; brothers-in-law, JR O’Leary, Larry Dick, JW McVey, Jack Rinehart, Wayne Rogers; sisters-in-law, De Rogers, Darma McVey; and nephew, Mikel O’Leary.

Graveside service will be held at 9:30 a.m. at First Mennonite Church of Pretty Prairie Cemetery, 1718 W. Pretty Prairie Rd., Pretty Prairie, Saturday, May 30, 2026, with a memorial service following at 10:30 a.m. in the church. Visitation will be from 9 a.m. to 8 p.m., with the family present to receive friends from 6-8 p.m. Friday, May 29, 2026, at Elliott Mortuary.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to First Mennonite Church of Pretty Prairie, in care of Elliott Mortuary, 1219 N. Main, Hutchinson, KS 67501.
