Marvin H. "Bud" Sewing, 85, died Wednesday Dec. 26, 2007, at Hutchinson Hospital.
He was born March 21, 1922, in St. John, KS, the son of Henry and Lydia Schulz Sewing. He graduated in 1939, from Hutchinson High School. He worked for Montgomery Ward for 22 years, and then co-owned and operated Bud and Bob's Conoco Service Station until retiring in 1984.
He belonged to Zion Lutheran Church, was a life member of the American Legion Lysle Rishel Post No. 68, and Bob Campbell Veterans of Foreign Wars Post No. 1361, and was a Silver Top Bowler. He served in the U.S. Navy during World War II in the European and Pacific Theaters. He was awarded the Purple Heart.
On Jan. 1, 1945, he married Marjorie M. Lambert in Newton. She survives.
Other survivors include: two daughters, Nancy J. Blake and husband Jack, Wichita, and Vickie L. Sewing, Santa Fe, N.M.; five grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren; and a great-great-grandson.
He was preceded in death by a sister, Marcella "Marcy" Shuman, just 18 minutes before him, and a grandson.
Funeral will be at 10 a.m. Monday at Elliott Mortuary Chapel, Hutchinson, with Pastors Henry Hartman and Robert L. Albin presiding. Visitation will be from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. Saturday and Sunday at the mortuary, with the family present from 2 to 4 p.m. Sunday. Burial will be in Fairlawn Burial Park, with military graveside rites conducted by the Navy Honor Guard.
