Mary Ellen Ackley, 92, died May 2, 2026, at Good Samaritan Society – Hutchinson Village. She was born February 24, 1934, in Phillipsburg, to Carl Baxter Campbell and Ruth Winona (King) Campbell Sickmann.
Mary was a 1952 graduate from Kirwin High School, Kirwin, KS. She worked as a printer for Bankers Investment Company for many years before working as an office assistant at ADM and Collingwood Grain. Mary enjoyed going to casinos and attending music theatre with her friends; especially at Music Theatre Wichita. She liked to watch and support the Kansas City Royals and Chiefs. Mary loved many kinds of ice cream bars and cookies.
On February 26, 1955, she married Richard E. Ackley, in Hutchinson. Together they shared over 35 years of marriage, prior to his death on May 7, 1990.
Mary is survived by: her children, Linda (David) Flanagan of Lewisville, TX, Darin (Becki) Ackley of Hutchinson, Carl (Pam) Ackley of Haysville; grandchildren, Dana (Ellis) Bayliss of Santa Fe, TX, Hannah Ackley of Haysville, Brody (Kaylee) Ackley and Haley Ackley, both of Wichita, Brooke (Wyatt) Akins, and Brynne Ackley, both of Manhattan; great-grandchildren, Brynleigh and Charlotte Bunting, and Bryce Ackley; siblings, Richard Sickmann of Osborne, Kenton (Loretta) Sickmann of Topeka, Kathy (Terry) Martin of Leavenworth; sister-in-law, Diane Sickmann of Edmond, OK; and a host of nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by: her parents; husband, Richard; and brother, Ronald Sickmann.
Memorial service will be 1:00 p.m. Saturday, May 9, 2026, at Elliott Mortuary. Friends may sign her book Monday through Friday from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m., at Elliott Mortuary. Cremation has taken place.
