Obituary

Mary Louise (Dellenbach) Krenzin finished her Earthly journey at the age of 99 on Friday, October 11, 2013. She was born December 7, 1913, to Alfred and Anna (Grove) Dellenbach, on the Dellenbach farm southeast of Abbyville. A 1932, graduate of Abbyville High School, Mary Louise went on to attend both Hutchinson Junior College and Bethel College, Newton. On May 23, 1943, she married Harvey A. Krenzin in a ceremony at the Dellenbach farm home. Harvey and Mary Louise resided in the Abbyville community most of their married life, where they farmed, and were active members of the Abbyville Christian Church until they began attending South Hutchinson Christian Church and became members there in 1985.

In April 2002, Harvey and Mary Louise moved to the Dillon Living Center, Hutchinson. Mary Louise was active in ministry even after moving to the Dillon Living Center; she played piano and organ, and on occasion presented lessons at Sunday afternoon church services. She continued to sew, and made dozens of small quilts to give away. As recently as October 7, 2013, she offered a morning prayer in the Dillon Living Center dining room.

Harvey passed away at Dillon Living Center on September 22, 2010. Mary Louise's beloved parents, Alfred and Anna Dellenbach, her brothers, Paul Alfred and Dean Edwin, and sister, Doris Anna (Dellenbach) Jeffers, all preceded her in death.

Mary Louise is survived by: her loving daughter and only child, Linda Louise Krenzin; sisters-in-law, Glenna Dellenbach, and Ella Mae Schwartz; 10 nieces; and two nephews. Surviving her on the Dellenbach side are: Loydeen (Jeffers) Fadely (Kenneth), Barbara (Jeffers) Stallings, Kathryn (Jeffers) Sawyer, Keith Dellenbach (Linda), LuWana (Dellenbach) Davisson (Larry), and Denice (Dellenbach) Blew (Kevin). On the Krenzin side are: Theda (Spessard) Shultz (Ed), Nedra (Spessard) Angell (Brad), Judy (Spessard) Smith (Mike), Shirley (Schwartz) Basgall, Vickie (Schwartz) Pearce (Lew), and Danny Schwartz (Rita).

Music was always an important part of Mary Louise's life. She was approximately 13 years old when she began playing the piano for Sunday school, with her father, Alfred, sitting beside her playing on his saxophone. After a serious stroke in 1991, she devised her own forms of physical therapy and regained her beautiful penmanship and the ability to play the piano.

Mary Louise was a homemaker, farm wife, and teacher. She taught school for 18 years, beginning with positions at one-room country schools and concluding her teaching career in 1974, at Elreka Grade School, southwest of Hutchinson. She enjoyed keeping in touch with her students, some of whom visited her at the Dillon Living Center decades after "Mrs. Krenzin" was their teacher.

From 1939 on, Mary Louise was an active member of the Women's Christian Temperance Union (W.C.T.U.) and was elected to various offices in the organization. She was a writer, and she enjoyed contributing news and articles to The Record and to the W.C.T.U.'s Our Messenger publication. One of her greatest talents was writing notes and letters of encouragement to those who needed cheer. Mary Louise's dream of many years was fulfilled in 1996, when she published A History of Abbyville.

Funeral will be at 10 a.m. on Wednesday, October 16, 2013, at Elliott Mortuary Chapel, Hutchinson. Former students are encouraged to share a scrapbook remembrance of Mrs. Krenzin and leave it for her daughter, Linda, at Elliott Mortuary, Hutchinson. Visitation will be from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. Monday and Tuesday with family present from 5 to 7 p.m. Tuesday, October 15, 2013, at Elliott Mortuary, Hutchinson. Interment will be in Abbyville Cemetery, Abbyville.
