Mary E. Fast, 91, died Aug. 6, 2006, at Thorne Care Center.
She was born April 6, 1915, in rural Cawker City, the daughter of Guy B. and Nellie Mary Bailey Chapman. She graduated from Asherville High School in 1934. A longtime Hutchinson resident, she was a homemaker and accounts payable clerk for Chalmers/Borton and also for the former Mammels Stores.
She belonged to Emanuel Lutheran Church, where she was active in Senior Club and Women of the Evangelical Lutheran Church. She was life member of Fraternal Order of Eagles Aerie 2550 Auxiliary.
In September 1936, she married Jess Borton. He died in December 1956. On Dec. 16, 1966, she married Gerald H. Fast in Hutchinson. He died June 11, 1991.
Survivors include: a stepson, Jack Fast and wife, Shirley, Hutchinson; four stepgrandchildren, David Fast, Susan Bacon and husband, Robert, Cheryl Jerome and husband, Rex, and Janet Fast; four stepgreat-grandchildren, Rachel, Caroline and Tom Bacon, and Andy Jerome; a nephew, Greg Chapman; three nieces, Wanda Walsh, Donna Kapels and Virginia O'Brien; and a cousin, Helen Gillmore.
She was preceded in death by her parents and a brother.
Funeral will be at 10 a.m. Thursday at Emanuel Lutheran Church, Hutchinson, with Pastors Tim Carey and Loren Mai presiding. Friends may call from 1 to 9 p.m. Tuesday and 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. Wednesday, with the family receiving friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday, all at Elliott Chapel, Hutchinson. Burial will be in Fairlawn Burial Park, Hutchinson.
