Obituary

Mary Ellen (Hapgood) Shinn, 94, died March 22, 2016, at Hutchinson Regional Medical Center. She was born Nov. 19, 1921, in McPherson, to Harry and Lucinda (Brubaker) Hapgood. Mary graduated from McPherson High School in 1939. She retired one day before her 90th birthday as a receptionist at Wesley Towers, where Mary had worked for over 20 years. She enjoyed woodcarving, jewelry making, and watching and attending NBA ballgames. Mary belonged to First Presbyterian Church. She was an amazing mom, grandma, and great-grandma and will be greatly missed.

On Aug. 2, 1942, she married Clarence Shinn in McPherson. He died Jan. 15, 1971.

Survivors include: daughters, Marcy Cannon and husband Roger of Hutchinson, Jill Geller and husband Kent of Olathe; son, Michael and wife Patty of Gilbert, Ariz.; grandchildren, Paul Cannon and wife Nisha, Angie Rodriguez and husband Israel, Erik, Kevin and Brian Geller; great-grandchildren, Mariah and Rylie Cannon, Olivia Rodriguez, Cruz Cannon, Caleb Rodriguez, and Cain Cannon. She was preceded in death by: her parents; four sisters; and a brother.

Cremation has taken place. Memorial service will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday, March 26, 2016, at Elliott Chapel, Hutchinson, with Pastor Israel Rodriguez officiating. Friends may sign the book from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Thursday and Friday, with the family to greet friends from 5 to 7 p.m. Friday at Elliott Mortuary. Burial will follow at Fairlawn Burial Park, Hutchinson.

Memorials may be made to the American Heart Association or Wesley Towers Good Samaritan Fund, in care of Elliott Mortuary, 1219 N. Main, Hutchinson, KS 67501.
