Obituary

NICKERSON - Mary Corene Hirst Hawks, 87, died September 11, 2013. She was born October 19, 1925, in Hutchinson, the daughter of Clarence and Florence Siegrist Stallman.

She was a 1942, graduate of Partridge High School, a member of the United Methodist Church, Cameo Club both of Nickerson and Reno County Historical Society. Mary had worked for the U.S. post office of Nickerson.


She was married to William Hirst in June of 1943, and married to Chalmers A. Hawks in June of 1948. She is survived: by three sons, Ron (Bette) Hirst of South Hutchinson, Francis (Karen) Hawks of Hutchinson, and Tim Hawks of Irving, Texas; two sisters, Virginia Rexroad of Partridge, and Jean Stallman of Seattle, WA; six grandchildren, Aaron (Amy) Hirst, Travis (Betsy) Hirst, Kathy (Basil) Bsisu, Jason (Katie) Hawks, Joe (Megan) Hawks, and Timisha Harrell; and 12 great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents and her husbands William in World War II, May 28, 1945, and Chalmers, December 24, 1995.

Funeral will be at 10:30 a.m. Thursday, September 19, 2013, at Nickerson United Methodist Church, with the Reverend Melissa L. Naylor and Pastor Joyce Beam officiating. Visitation will be from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. Tuesday and Wednesday with family present from 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at Elliott Mortuary, Hutchinson. Burial will be in Penwell Gabel Cemetery and Mausoleum, Hutchinson. Memorial gifts may be made to the church, or Wesley Towers Good Samaritan Fund, in care of Elliott Mortuary, 1219 North Main, Hutchinson, KS 67501.
