SOUTH HUTCHINSON - Mary Jo Jones, 77, died March 1, 2009, at Promise Regional Medical Center, Hutchinson.
She was born Jan. 28, 1932 in Higginsville, MO to Charles Joseph and Mary Elizabeth Everhart Mills.
A longtime resident of Lawrence until moving to Hutchinson in 1954, she was a clerk at Ben Franklin in South Hutchinson and a homemaker.
On Oct. 20, 1951, she married Lyman Jones in Lawton, Okla. He survives.
She was a beloved good samaritan who touched many lives with generous offerings of her time, talents, and compassion for others.
Survivors include: husband, Lyman Jones, South Hutchinson; son, Cliff Jones and wife Cindy, Hutchinson; two daughters, Sharon Crenshaw, South Hutchinson and Diana Poorman and husband Ron, Raytown, Mo.; six grandchildren, Derrick and Matthew Stiles, Jon and Garrett Poorman, Kristen Jones and Alissa Lorchick; two great-grandchildren, Jaden Moon and Emma Lorchick; two brothers, Charles Mills, Lawrence and John Mills, Wildomar, CA; and a sister Gweneth Emrick.
She was preceded in death by her parents; and a brother, Richard Mills.
Graveside service will be 11 a.m. Friday, March 6, 2009, in Penwell-Gabel Cemetery and Mausoleum, Hutchinson, with Pastor Jeremy Patterson officiating. Visitation will be 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. Wednesday and Thursday at Elliott Mortuary, Hutchinson, with the family present from 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday.
